Our Commitment to Privacy

Our Privacy Policy is designed to assist you in understanding how we collect, use and safeguard the personal information you provide us with and to assist you in making informed decisions when using our Web site.

What Information Do We Collect?

When you visit our Web site, you may provide us with two types of information: personal information you knowingly and actively choose to disclose, collected on an individual basis (“Active Information”) and Web site use information collected on an aggregate basis as you and others browse our Web site (“Passive Information”).

Passive Information

Similar to other websites, our website utilizes a standard technology called “cookies” (see explanation below, “What Are Cookies?”) as well as Web server logs to collect information about how our website is used.  Information gathered through cookies and Web server logs may include the date and time of visits, the pages viewed, and time spent at our website.  This information is collected on an aggregate basis.  None of this information is associated with you as an individual.  We also collect information about a user’s progression through the online educational games provided on our website.  Because users are associated with a member name while playing games, the information collected regarding a user’s progression through the games will be associated with you as an individual.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are a feature of Web browser software that allows Web servers to recognize the computer used to access a website.  Cookies are small pieces of data that are stored by a user’s Web browser on the user’s hard drive.  Cookies can remember what information a user accesses on one Web page to simplify subsequent interactions with that Web site by the same user or to use the information to streamline the user’s transactions on related Web pages.  This makes it easier for a user to move from Web page to Web page and complete commercial transactions over the Internet.  Cookies should make your online experience easier and more personalized.

Use of Passive Information

We use website browser software tools such as cookies and Web server logs to gather information about our website users’ browsing activities in order to constantly improve our website and better serve you.  This information assists us to design and arrange our Web pages in the most user-friendly manner and to continually improve our website, goods and services to better meet the needs of our users.  Cookies help us collect important business and technical statistics.  The information in the cookies lets us trace the paths followed by users to our website as they move from one page to another.  Web server logs allow us to count how many people visit our website and evaluate our website’s visitor capacity.  We may use the information collected on a user’s progression through the online educational games for research purposes to study how users are learning science.

Active Information

When you choose to submit information to our site (including through our message blog), we may collect your name, email address, physical address, credit card information, and other personal information.  If you choose to become a subscribing member of our website, we will collect specific information provided by you to process your application form.  The information you supply as a member will allow us to subsequently communicate with you through email or other ways regarding updates and other special offerings of our website.

Use of Active Information

If you choose to correspond with us via email, we use the personal information you choose to submit to contact you to further discuss your inquiries. We may retain the content of your email messages together with your email address and our responses.  Email that you send us may not be secure unless we advise you that security measures will be in place prior to your transmitting the information.  For that reason, we ask that you do not send confidential information to us through an unsecured email.

If you choose to become a subscribing member of our website, we use the personal information you choose to submit to process and complete your application form.

Occasionally, we may also use the personal information we collect to notify you about important changes to our website, new products and special offers we think you will find valuable.  The lists used to send you product offers are developed and managed under our traditional corporate standards, designed to safeguard the security and privacy of our visitors’ personal information.  Where necessary, our site provides users the opportunity to opt-out of receiving these special offers or receiving communications from us at the point where we request information about the user.  To opt-out of receiving future communications from us, to inquire about personal information this website has collected about you, or to correct errors in the factual information provided by you to this website, you may email us at: stephan@twisteducation.com, or send us a written request addressed to: 14402 Blanco Road, Suite 100, San Antonio, TX 78216. Disclosure of Information to Outside Parties

We do not sell or share your Active Information, except to provide goods and services you have requested or when we have your consent to do so. We may provide aggregate Passive Information about website traffic patterns and related website information to our affiliates or reputable third parties, but this information will not include personally identifying data.

Legally Compelled Disclosure of Information

We may disclose information when legally compelled to do so; in other words, when we, in good faith, believe that the law requires it or for the protection of our own legal rights, or in special cases such as a physical threat to you or others.

Please read over those rules and policies before proceeding.

What About Children’s Privacy?

Children’s privacy on the Internet is governed by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).  COPPA provides rules that apply to the online collection of personal information from children under the age of 13. When a child under the age of 18 attempts to register as a member of our website, we obtain prior verifiable parental or guardian consent for the collection, use, and/or disclosure of personally-identifiable information from the child.  We do not ask a child under the age of 13 for more personal information, as a condition of participation, than is reasonably necessary to participate in a given activity.  The following information will be collected from a child under the age of 18 during the initial registration process:  (1) child’s account name (which we suggest is different from the child’s name), (2) password, (3) identity question (i.e., pet’s name), (4) age, and (5) parent/guardian’s email address.  We use this information to send the parent/guardian a message that can be used to activate the member account, to notify the parent about our privacy practices, to send the parent/guardian communications about the child’s account or about features of the website, and for other purposes described in this Privacy Policy.  Parents may review, delete, and modify their children’s personally identifiable information provided on our website.  To do any of the following, please send an email to policy@twisteducation.com for instructions:  (a) access the personally identifiable information that our website has collected from your child, (b) correct errors in such information, (c) request to have the information deleted, or (d) request that we no longer collect and maintain such information.

Blogs, Message Boards and Chats

We may offer blogs, message boards and chat rooms on our website. Please be aware that anyone may read your posting on a blog, message board or in a chat room.  Also, any information which you decide to submit to be posted to a blog, message board or in a chat room, including information about your account, will be disclosed and available to all users of that blog, message board or chat room, and is no longer private.  We cannot guarantee the security of such information that you disclose or communicate online in public areas such as blogs, message boards and chat rooms, and you do so at your own risk.  We reserve the right to monitor the content of blogs, message boards and chat rooms.

Granting Your Consent

By using our website, you consent to our collection and use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.  We reserve the right to revise this Privacy Policy at our discretion.  Please check back on this site as this Privacy Policy may be revised from time to time without notice to you.
